A pita bread can be served as a great accompaniment to delicious dishes. The tasty bread is best known from Greece or the Middle East. The dough is prepared with fresh yeast, flour, milk and spices. You need a little patience during preparation, because the yeast has to rest long enough to rise. But the waiting time is definitely worth it, because the bread tastes really fantastic.

Ingredients for the pita bread (for 1 serving):

1 cube of fresh yeast
500 g of plain flour
1 teaspoon salt
140 ml warm milk
190 ml of warm water
1 tbsp honey
3 tbsp olive oil

Required equipment

Preparation of the pita bread:

1.
Put the warm milk, the water and a tablespoon of honey in a bowl and crumble the yeast into it. Stir everything so that the yeast becomes active.

In another bowl, pour the flour through a sieve and add the salt and olive oil. Then add the yeast to the flour and knead everything into a smooth dough.

Cover the finished dough and let it rise for 30 minutes and then form small, flat cakes from the dough.

Let the dough rise again covered for 40 minutes. Meanwhile preheat the oven to 170 degrees (top / bottom heat).

5.
Brush the approximately 10 mm thick dough pieces with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for just under 7 minutes and then serve immediately.

Things to know about pita bread:

If necessary, you can sprinkle the delicious bread with sesame seeds before baking. In addition, it may be advisable to turn the flatbreads halfway through the baking time during baking. This way, the pita bread is beautifully baked on both sides.
