Tzatziki already existed in the Mesopotamian cuisine:

Tzatziki is the classic Greek appetizer eaten with string bread. It also goes well with the traditional Greek, spicy meat dishes Souflaki and Gyros. The Greek cuisine has a very long tradition and a wide variety of fantastic dishes.

Tzatziki is served in Greece like a salad. This fits a simple thread bread or freshly baked baguette particularly well, but also a portion of freshly prepared fried potatoes tastes delicious.

Ingredients for tzatziki (for 4 people):

400 g Greek yogurt (10% fat)
1 BIO Lime
4 cloves of garlic
1 big cucumber
2 tbsp olive oil
1 bunch dill
salt and pepper

Preparation of tzatziki:

Wash the cucumber and dill with cold water. Wash BIO lime with hot water, remove zest from the skin and squeeze out the juice. Peel garlic and squeeze through the garlic press. Finely chop the dill. Grate the cucumber with a coarse cheese grater or a vegetable slicer, mix with 1 tbsp salt and let stand for about 20 minutes until the cucumber water emerges. Add the cucumber rasp and a clean dishcloth and wring it out vigorously.

Thoroughly mix the yoghurt with garlic and olive oil and add the cucumber rasp. Season with salt, pepper and lime juice and chill for another hour before serving. Add dill and serve immediately.

Worth knowing about Tzatziki:

With this simple yoghurt dish, it is not only important to use genuine Greek yoghurt because of the original recipe, but also because the high fat content makes the dish especially tasty. It is just as important to wring out the cucumber water from the grated cucumber, as the yoghurt is otherwise watery and fas.
The dill is therefore added only at the end of the rest period, as its aroma is dominant and would otherwise drown out the delicate taste of the cucumber. The lime juice can also be replaced by a small dash of white wine vinegar.

If you still have something to eat after your meal or need to make an important appointment the next day, you can use one clove of garlic less. However, it should be said: a true Greek would smile at the worry of garlic smell only, because the taste pleasure is just more important than all social concerns …
